Things To Do in NYC for Music Lovers

Everyone loves music! Whether you use it to make car rides seem shorter, to make work more enjoyable, or to make your work outs fun, music has an integral place in almost everyone’s life. However, there are those that take it to the next level and have a deep love and an expansive knowledge of music. Luckily for these people, New York City has an expansive history in music and a plethora of unique locations that all music lovers simply must visit.

There are plenty of things to do in NYC for music lovers, but let’s start with smaller, local venues for great, live music. The great thing about New York City for music lovers is that it’s so well known and packed with artistic people, that even the smaller live shows of relatively unknown artists are typically great.

Check out places like Irving Plaza,  The Mercury Lounge, and Webster Hall. They’re relatively small compared to some of the bigger venues out there, but they’re well known enough to feature very good local acts as well as more well-known artists that you’ll be excited to see.

Apollo Theater

The Apollo theater is one of the most iconic performance theaters in New York City, making it a must see NYC sight for any music fanatic. There are well known artists playing this venue all the time, so if there’s someone you really want to see, be sure to check their website’s performance schedule and plan your trip accordingly.

Academy Records

Academy Records has a vast selection of music, from cassettes to compact disks, but they’re known for their extensive collection of vinyl records. If you’re a lover of music you’ll love this store, but if you’re a fan of vinyl, you can’t afford not to go.

Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall is one of the oldest theaters in New York City. It opened in 1932, and has since become iconic due to multiple television appearances and iconic shows, featuring artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Stevie Wonder. It’s beautifully decorated interior, big name events, and age make it one of the greatest NYC sights for music fans and an integral part of New York City.

Main Drag Music

Main Drag Music is a favorite hot spot for local musicians. Located in Brooklyn, this shop has everything you could possibly need for a jam session. There are new and used guitars, full drum sets, and more obscure, weird acoustic instruments you might not even know exist. The outside is stylish but rather unassuming. Once you enter the building, however, you realize that it’s every punk’s dream.

This isn’t a tourist attraction by any means, but if you love music and want to get away from the tourist scene, you should definitely check out this shop.

These are just a few things to do in NYC that every music lover should check out when in New York City. Remember, New York is a city rich with culture, and the music scene is thriving like never before. There are endless locations for any music fan to visit, but these are our favorites.
