Central Park Zoo

Location: E 64th St & 5th Ave, New York, NY 10021

Animal lovers of all ages won’t want to miss the Central Park Zoo. A pioneer in re-creating natural habitats in urban environments, the zoo houses polar bears, sea lions, monkeys and more, including red pandas and other endangered species. If you’re bringing along little ones, don’t forget to visit the Tisch Children’s Zoo, where they can feed and pet friendly live animals or play (and learn) in a variety of simulated animal eggs, shells and habitats.

Some of the experiences available at the Zoo include: The 4-D Theater, an immersive experience featuring the visual drama of a 3-D film with a variety of built-in sensory effects; Draw Like a Scientist - draw, sketch, and study animals with help from Zoo staff, Penguin Feedings - when it’s time to eat (daily at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.), the gentoos, chinstraps, and king penguins come out of their dens or up from the deep and bob for fish.

If you have a question, there’s always a friendly zookeeper nearby to answer it. And finally, the Sea Lion Feedings (daily at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.) - sea lions are curious and intelligent and the training/feeding sessions help stimulate them. In the fall, the animals may eat more than usual. They’re building up insulation for the cold weather.
